John H. Grueter 1926 - 2007

John H. Grueter, 80, of Burlington, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at his home. He was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Burlington to John M. and Clementine (nee Kasner) Grueter. He spent his early life and was educated in Burlington. He served in the US Army Field Artillery in Germany from 1950 – 1952. On June 27, 1953, he married Margaret Schaller at St. George Catholic Church in Kenosha. Following marriage they made their home in Kenosha until 1994 when they moved to Burlington. John was a machinist working for Kenosha Automatic Products and also for Dynamatic Eaton Corp. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington and a former member of St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Kenosha. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and competing in leagues. He was an avid gardener and bird watcher. He was a gifted “Mr. Fix It.” He loved watching baseball and the Green Bay Packers. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Grueter of Burlington; children, Dr. Jean (Dr. Thomas Niccolai) Grueter of Burlington, Joan (Joseph) Bullis of Kenosha, John Robert (Cindy) Grueter of Kenosha, Richard (Suzanne) Grueter of Burlington, Sharon (Drake) Van Thiel of Racine, Wis.; grandchildren, Michael, Robert & David Niccolai, Rachel, Rebecca & Aaron Bullis, Dana, John Thomas Grueter, Kaitlyn, Melissa & Benjamin Grueter and Morgan Van Thiel; brothers, William, Phillip and Roman (Marie) Grueter; sisters, Marietta Grueter and Grace (Paul) Lohaus. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Fred & Edward and sisters Celia Stevens & Julia Luzinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington with Rev. Jeff Thielen officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Monday, Sept. 17, from 4 – 8 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
